From school shootings to gentrification to racial violence and systemic injustice, traumatized communities need churches who are aware, understand and advocate for justice and racial righteousness knowing that traumatic stress reactions are normal reactions to abnormal circumstances. The impact of trauma can be subtle, insidious, or outright destructive. Violence and psychological problems have steered activists, academics, spiritual formation advocates and public officials to rethink programs that address the aggregate effects of trauma on the mental health of community residents. From suburbs to inner city to rural communities, the church needs to be equipped in how to be effective messengers of hope as we encounter the life-altering role trauma plays in the lives of residents in the communities surrounding our churches. Registration opens June 3, 2019.
