The Rev. Dr. Kurt Miericke Compassion, Mercy, Justice

Nominations are open for the 2020 Rev. Dr. Kurt Miericke CMJ Award. This award is presented to a church that has an active and ongoing ministry committed to compassion, mercy and justice. The ministry needs to address the systemic, individual or societal causes of human suffering, disenfranchisement or marginalization and highlight the ministry’s focus on awareness, advocacy, interruption or restoration.

To nominate a church, submit a nomination letter, not longer than one page, addressing how the ministry or the church is committed to addressing distress, trauma and the systemic targeting of people and highlight the ways the nominated ministry brings awareness, healing, hope and restoration to their participants. You must also submit a video not longer than two minutes that explains what the ministry does, how it helps and the promise it brings. Papers longer than one page and videos longer than two minutes will be eliminated from qualifying for the award. Submit your nominations to office@southeastconf.org by March 1, 2020.


The Rev. Dr. Robert Owens Pioneer Grant

Nominations are open for The Rev. Dr. Robert L. Owens Pioneer Spirit Grant. This grant will be awarded to a SEC minister who is pioneering in church planting or a racial reconciliation ministry. This grant award will be paid directly to the minister or to an organization designated by the minister being honored. 

To be eligible for the award the minister must hold a Covenant credential, be currently serving in the SEC and be in good standing. The minister may be serving in a variety of positions and/or organizations including local churches, non-profit organizations, community development, or para-church organizations. The candidate can be involved in church planting or a local church ministry involving racial reconciliation. 

To nominate a credentialed minister in good standing, submit a nomination letter, not longer than one page, addressing how the minister is doing pioneering work as a church planter or in the ministry of racial reconciliation. You must also submit a video, not longer than two minutes, that explains how the minister's work is pioneering. Papers longer than one page and videos longer than two minutes will be eliminated from qualifying for the grant. Submit your nominations to office@southeastconf.org by March 1, 2020.

The SEC ‘All In’ Award

This is a conference award to churches who are actively participating in seven ways to give of themselves in ways that demonstrate our strength of being ‘Better Together’. All churches who have members who participate in ways that the church meets each of the seven criteria will receive the ‘All In’ Award :

1) enrolled and participating in an SEC classroom

2) enrolled and participating in an SEC cohort (vitality, financial leadership or justice)

3) attend our conference gathering: SEC Annual Meeting Celebration, SEC Pastors & Spouse Retreat, and an SEC Retreat (for SEC Women, Men, Children, Youth, Young Adult, Singles, Married or Seniors)

4) church mission giving monthly at or moving toward the 3.5%

5) participating as a team member of an SEC Generosity Circle

6) participating on an SEC Network Ministry Team

7) participating on an SEC Network Mission Team All churches that meet the above criteria can self-nominate for this award by submitting a one page letter that identifies their participation in each of the seven areas listed above. Send letters of nomination to the SEC conference office.
